Eugene Science Center’s #RaceThroughSpace is a virtual race scaled at 1:1 billion miles that will be reaching all the planets (and dwarf planet Pluto) in our solar system during the month of July.

This race takes place on a unique scaled Solar System Trail located in Eugene, Oregon following the Willamette River. This scaled path is the longest on the West Coast, and the only one in Oregon!

Race Through Space is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while exploring our solar system. Proceeds of this race support Eugene Science Center’s post-pandemic reopening campaign, and its mission to engage children, excite their curiosity, inspire them toward a lifelong love of learning about science and empower them to use science and technology to improve their communities.

3 different Eugene courses to choose from:

#RACETHROUGHSPACE 9 Mile Course: Sun to Pluto & Back [run, walk or bike] (starts at the Sun in Alton Baker Park and journeys all the way up to River Road- and back!)

#RACETHROUGHSPACE 4.5 Mile Course: Sun to Uranus & Back [run, walk or bike] (Starts at the Sun in Alton Baker Part, right after finding Uranus along the path in Maurie Jacobs Park, you will make your return journey to the sun by crossing the Willamette River at the Greenway Pedestrian Bike Bridge [Valley River Center])

#RACETHROUGHSPACE “Shooting Stars” .5 mile Kids Dash (This course quickly starts and ends at the Sun as racers pass by Mercury, Venus, the Earth and Moon, and then Mars. This whole course is in Alton Baker Park.)

Adults receive a commemorative bib, finishers certificate, and race sticker!

Kids receive a finishers medal, commemorative bib, and sticker!

This virtual race can happen at any time in July! We hope to make this a one-day event in the future, but to practice safe social distancing, we encourage you and your household or close circle to find a day in July to bike, walk, or run your desired course!

Not in Lane County? Find any trail, road, path; even your treadmill will work, to complete your own 9 mile, 4.5 mile or .5 mile #racethroughspace!
