We require a minimum ratio of 1 adult for every 7 children in attendance. Adults are responsible for supervising all party guests in the exhibit hall and planetarium.

Our birthday party room accommodates a maximum of 24 people according to fire code. Guests are expected to adhere to this limit; guidelines will be given at the time of registration. For parties expecting more than 30 people total, we strongly encourage you to consider an after-hours rental of the museum.

Memberships can be purchased here.

Payment must be received 7 days prior to birthday party or event will be cancelled.

All parties are two hours in length. The birthday activity, facilitated by a Eugene Science Center educator, is typically reserved for the last half-hour of the party, but may take place up to 30 minutes earlier upon request. For other scheduling accommodation requests, please contact our birthday coordinator in advance. “Starstruck!” parties rely on the public Planetarium schedule; showtimes are fixed and alternate schedules cannot be accommodated.

Sample schedule for a 2 – 4PM birthday party:

1:45 – 2:00 pm Birthday family may arrive (check in at the front desk) to set up and decorate the room
2:00 – 2:30 pm Guests arrive and check in at the front desk; free time for Exhibit Hall play
2:30 – 3:00 pm Exhibit Hall playtime continues
3:00 – 3:30 pm Birthday cake, food/drink, presents
3:30 – 4:00 pm Science activity led by a Eugene Science Center educator

Fire regulations limit occupancy of the birthday party room to 24 people maximum. The room can become quite crowded and cramped for space, even below this limit, when all party guests are in the room at once. We strongly recommend that parties expecting large attendance (30 people or more) consider booking an after-hours museum rental.

The birthday party room includes 16 chairs, two – three 6 ft tables, and counter space. The community room includes 6 rectangular tables and 20 chairs. Additional chairs and folding tables may be made available upon request.

Guest parents are not required to stay for the length of the party, but those who do attend will be counted toward your total number of guests. All guests after the 20th will be charged regular Exhibit Hall admission. You may ask additional guests to pay for their admission or have it billed to you, payable at the conclusion of the party.

The party host must make arrangements to have adequate adult supervision on hand. Children must be supervised at all times. There must be at least one adult in attendance for every 7 children.

You may arrive up to 15 minutes before your scheduled reservation to set up and decorate the party room. You may decorate the room with freestanding decorations, tablecloths, banners, streamers, and signs. Helium balloons must be weighted down. Please do not use duct tape on any surface, or Scotch tape on the whiteboard. You are responsible for setting up and taking down decorations, as well as disposing of all garbage and recyclables. You may bring your own food and drink; alcohol is not permitted. Refrigeration/freezer is not available for public use.  However, If you are bringing in ice cream and/or ice cream cake, please check with Guest Relations to see if they can temporarily store the items in our freezer depending on whether or not space is available.

All food and drink must stay in the birthday party room.

We ask that you please leave the birthday party room in the same condition as you find it upon entry. Remove or discard all leftover food, wipe down table and counter surfaces, stack chairs, and dispose of trash & recycling in the proper receptacles provided. You will have up to 15 minutes after the end of your reservation to clean up.

If you are the last party of the day, please remember that Eugene Science Center closes at 5:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays and 7:00pm on Fridays. Your party guests must leave the museum at closing time. The science center’s doors are locked at closing, so if you need to make multiple trips to the car, please alert an employee so that you will not be locked out.

You will be assessed a $50.00 fee for not properly cleaning the room of trash or decorations. To ensure there is no cleaning fee assessed, please check in with the birthday host prior to leaving.

If you choose to pay for your birthday party online, you will receive an email receipt confirming your reservation.

A full payment  is required to hold your reservation. Your reservation is not confirmed until payment is received.

Add-on expenses, like extra guests in attendance, are due on the day of your party before you leave. Your birthday host can help determine any extra amount owed on the day of your party.

Please contact Guest Relations at 541-682-7888 or [email protected] if you need to cancel or postpone your birthday party.
